In a nutshell
We have an exciting opportunity to join the leadership Engineering team, as Head of Engineering operations.
You will be accountable for the on-time delivery of the engineering operation, achieving the highest levels of compliance, safety and operational reliability and controlling cost effectively. Working with various teams in your area to achieve on-time completion of all maintenance requirements whilst meeting all operational and commercial flying programme constraints. You will be accountable for Heavy Maintenance (MRO) sourcing, planning and completion, in addition to E&M wide business improvement, reporting and analytics.

Therefore, we are looking for someone who is resilient, highly organised, influential, and a brilliant leader. Day to day
- Engineering operations leader, accountable for exceptional decision making in complex and high stress situations, leading team to deliver against targets, objectives and the wider operational plan.
- Lead in strategic meetings (Fly Red) and with suppliers to ensure E&M requirements are met and future plans are deliverable / cost effective.
- Act as a budget holder, managing and overseeing the budget to ensure financial efficiency and accountability within the operations. To include managing lifecycle costs and budgets, including fleet assets and leases.
- Deliver the Engineering operation safely, ensuring all base and heavy maintenance requirements are met and exceed regulatory standard requirements. With 24/7 technical crisis and technical operational management support.
- Building and maintaining MRO, OEM and Part M regulatory relationships including SLA’s, performance reviews. Managing asset life cycle, lease-cycle, and maintenance reserve/accruals effectively to ensure VAA aircraft are delivered to the desired quality, safety and compliance standards.
- Fly Red Engineering owner ensuring the correct amount of maintenance time is available for Engineering and Maintenance. Key leader in forming the long-term strategy for the flying program to optimize the engineering planning parameters to ensure the most efficient profile to support the airline.
- Take an active role in working with and leading the business improvement, reporting and analytics team.
About you
- Professional qualifications in aircraft engineering, typically degree in relevant Engineering subject and/or suitable documented industry experience.
- Knowledge of current EASA, CAA & other National Airworthiness Authority regulations in relation to legislative requirements of Airworthiness data storage, tracking, reporting and Terms of Approval of the Virgin Atlantic Design Organisation.
- An experienced dynamic and analytical leader with a strong appetite for professional development and team culture. Demonstrates exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with evidence of influencing and building relationships at all levels, including senior management.
- Proven track record in people management, performance delivery, and handling complex HR matters. Adept at cost control, commercial strategy, and business-critical planning, supported by solid change and project management experience.
- Demonstrable experience in compiling insightful reports and presentations, interpreting diverse data sets, and driving both immediate results and long-term initiatives through innovative process improvements.
