In a nutshell

To ensure effective management of the Mechanical and Avionic systems across all of the Virgin Atlantic Fleet types. Leading a team of technical and design experts in support of the VAA aircraft fleet through specification and implementation of fleet maintenance and modification policies. Supporting investigations and corrective actions of system defects to maintain maximum safety, integrity, and reliability / availability at optimum cost. 

Day to day

Lead and manage the team of engineers in successfully overseeing the continued airworthiness and safe operation of our fleet from a Mechanical and Avionic Systems perspective. Ensure that all internal and external customers’ requirements are met within agreed SLAs. 

Ensuring that all departmental KPIs are maintained for measures such as Risk Assessments, Occurrence reports, Technical Documentation Assessments and more. 

Ensuring budgetary control of department, including modification budget items. 

Performance management of the team members on a quarterly basis  

Deputise for the Head of Engineering as and when required. 

About you

  • An engineering degree/HND in a discipline relevant to aviation or suitable documented industry experience. 
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in managing people. 
  • Several years’ experience in airline or manufacturers design / development / systems engineering 
  • Member of a related Professional body 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of EASA regulations. 
  • Demonstrate history of sound leadership and direction, developing a multi-disciplinary team that can fulfil all the mechanical systems group requirements. 
  • A high level of communication skills with personal effectiveness. 
  • Strong demonstrable negotiation and interpersonal skills 
  • Good verbal and written communication skills 
  • Must be able to work unsupervised and as part of a team, being a highly motivated, professional, flexible individual. 
  • Must have the ability to work well on their own initiative, innovate and deliver change where necessary. 
  • Must be thorough, detailed and analytical in their approach to work, must have drive and enthusiasm to develop a professional team culture. 
  • Must have experience of running projects to a clear deliverable and consistently meeting deadlines. 
  • An understanding of the safety and reliability issues surrounding aircraft systems and components.
