In this exciting role as US Operation Excellence Manager, you’ll be responsible for driving Virgin’s operational standards and excellence initiatives in accordance with the cargo business objectives. You will support our operational staff across the region to ensure the highest standard of customer service and simultaneously ensuring VAA/VAC procedures and policies, safety and security and brand values are monitored and always maintained.

This dynamic role will be based in LAX but will also provide remote oversight of the LAS cargo operation and our third-party ground handler.  You’ll be responsible for supporting Virgin Atlantic Cargo’s operational delivery for Las Vegas; ensuring operational excellence by ensuring our GHA is accountable for implementing and maintaining processes and procedures that deliver the operational aspect of our product, while adhering to all regulatory standards in terms of safety, security and technical compliance.

Day to day

  • Support US Operations managers in designing and implementing strong processes to manage performance of all 3rd party suppliers in the region, to ensure operational delivery to agreed standards, including the following: IATA Quality Processes and Standards, Flown as Booked data, and Import Milestones established by Virgin Atlantic
  • Identify key service delivery issues through data management and trend analysis, managing resolution with counterparts in the supplier and Virgin Atlantic organizations
  • Make recommendations and execute changes to the US Cargo Operations Management group relating to process improvements and efficiencies
  • Accountable for ensuring all aspects of operational activity for the region adheres to the appropriate security regulatory standards. This requires a thorough, detailed and current knowledge of all US regulatory standards and procedures, alongside all IATA/IOSA regulatory standards and procedures
  • Become subject matter expert on Voyager, CargoSpot, and data transmission systems and be a trusted resource for local issue resolution within the region
  • Act as primary US trucking coordinator, managing and validating the daily US truck bookings along with the Network and Flight Planning group
  • Provide daily support with managing the operational logistics of US interline and transfer shipments
  • Act as primary US liaison for VS Customer Relations during escalations and irregular operations
  • Become proficient in oversight of handling special loads (2-position cars, charters, irregular shipments, etc.) and being mobile to support as needed
  • Provide coverage as necessary across region during periods of operational strain (at the direction of the US Regional Manager)
  • Development and maintenance of good working relationships with the appropriate personnel within CBP, FAA, USDA and Virgin Atlantic’s Security hierarchy (e.g.: Virgin Atlantic’s Head of Security) and provide support with audits and regulatory tasks

LAS Responsibilities

  • Remotely support our LAS cargo operation by acting as the primary VS Cargo contact for the station (occasional travel to the station required)
  • Ensure LAS suppliers are customs compliant and held accountable for any failures to operate within the bounds of their respective regulatory authorities
  • Design and implement strong processes to manage 3rd party suppliers, to ensure operational delivery to agreed standards, including the following - IATA Quality Processes and Standards and manage the Import Milestones established by Virgin Atlantic
  • Conduct regular data-driven performance reviews to ensure LAS GHA is meeting VS operational service level standards
  • Leads the drive for efficiencies and cost reductions within area of control and boundaries of regulatory compliance and product standards

About you

Do you have proven experience as a Manager in the Airfreight industry, preferably with an airline or handling agent? Then this could be the role for you!

Alongside the above, we’re looking for the following to be successful in your application:

  • Knowledge with IATA Live Animal Regulations.
  • Excellent knowledge of both international imports and exports documentation.
  • Solid understanding of import/export documentation and U.S. agency requirements.
  • Excellent digital literacy with MS Office packages including PowerPoint, Excel and Word.
  • Self-motivated individual with the ability to travel by car, plane and/or train if required.
  • The right to live and work in the United States
